Louisville ‘White Lightning’ Curtis, aka Curtis Marlatt
Home: Louisville, KY
Curtis Marlatt was first exposed to Delta Blues via the early 60’s folk renaissance period. At the early age of 11, in 1960, he was influenced by Folk artists, Lightnin Hopkins and Bukka White. He caught the Delta Blues bug and soon bought his first guitar.
Luckily, in Curtis’ neighborhood, he would listen on the front porch to an old black Bluesman by the name of Sylvester Weaver. Sylvester Weaver’s tracks are the very first country-blues recordings, and the first known recorded songs, using the slide guitar style (Guitar Rag-Okeh Records).
Since that time Curtis has performed many a concert and blues club with his distinct ‘bourbon smooth’ style of Delta Blues throughout the country.
Curtis says the best ‘stroke’ he ever got was the night he opened up for Junior Wells, and backstage Junior told him “… Curtis, you took me straight to the front porch with that show”.
